Shriram Kavi Nilayam is a small school in Makkampalayam, Gobichettipalayam District. It is run by the Vivekananda Hill Tribe Development Corporation, an NGO which runs 2 other schools in the same district. This school benefits around 120 students, mostly tribal, all of whom are locals. Earlier they were studying in half closed shacks with tin roofs. Now this 3 classroom project has provided them pucca facility with RC roof, thereby enabling them to get Govt recognition.
Access to this location is very difficult. It takes around 2 hours from Sathyamangalam, all of which is hilly terrain with not very favourable roads. There is no other school anywhere in a 20km radius around this area. The students have been benefitted by this school mainly because of its presence in that area, and because of the fact that it is completely subsidised by the trust namely Vivekananda Hill tribe Development Corporation.
Coimbatore Penta Round Table 101 has taken the initiative to build this school mainly because we felt that there can be no more deserving project. The school that is very happy has requested us to help them with construction of another classroom block that will enable them to add more students. CPRT101 is also contemplating other ways to help this school.
